CONSULT EFC · PRACTICAL GUIDE

First board meeting after funding: what should finance bring?

Set a baseline for burn, runway, milestones and decisions at the first board meeting after a funding round.

Ask about this work

What to check first

Reconcile the opening position

Start with cleared proceeds, fees, committed spend and available cash. Show the operating plan funded by the raise and when commitments are expected to convert into cash payments.

Compare the first month with the investment case

Explain what has changed in hiring, revenue and gross margin. Show the effect on runway in both the base case and a slower sales case.

Ask the board for concrete decisions

List any hiring approvals, spending gates and forecast reset triggers. Agree a date and accountable owner for each action.
